One of the things I’ve always appreciated about keeping Turning Another Page is that it continues to grow in ways I never fully expect. What started as a simple place for me to talk about books I’ve read and thoughts I wanted to share has gradually opened the door to new reading opportunities that still feel closely connected to why I began this space in the first place.
Recently, I’ve had the chance to become involved in reading and providing verdicts for books connected to the IndieReader Discovery Awards, which has been a very interesting experience behind the scenes. It gives me the opportunity to read independently published work in a different setting while still approaching each book with the same thoughtfulness I try to bring into my own reviews here.
What I enjoy most is that the process still centers on looking carefully at what a book is trying to accomplish — its writing, creativity, structure, pacing, and the overall impression it leaves behind. Independent books often bring such a wide range of ideas, voices, and approaches, which makes the reading experience especially rewarding.
Because of the nature of this work, I’m not able to publicly discuss the books I’m reading for this process or share details about individual titles while they are under consideration, but I still wanted to mention this new involvement because it has become a meaningful part of my reading life recently.
In many ways, it feels like an extension of what Turning Another Page has always been for me: reading carefully, thinking deeply, and continuing to appreciate the many different ways stories and voices find their way to readers.
As always, thank you for continuing to visit this space, read along, and support all the little directions this blog continues to take. If you’d like to follow along with some of the writing I’m able to share publicly through IndieReader, you can find my verdicts there by clicking on each image.
