This novel is a powerful and emotional journey told through a series of letters from Dani’s youth into adulthood. The author skillfully portrays the struggles Dani endures—from early experiences of abandonment and resentment to the more complex challenges of adulthood like fear, desperation, and deep loneliness. Yet, through it all, Dani clings to hope, courage, and an unshakable belief that someone out there can offer her the one thing she’s always longed for: true affection and genuine respect for the woman she’s become.

My connection to Dani—and eventually to Chance—grew as the story unfolded. While Chance doesn’t appear throughout the entire book, his presence is unforgettable. I found myself relating to Dani’s perception of him and rooting for her happiness. Every time she smiled because of Chance, I smiled too. He became a source of light in her dark world, and that bond resonated deeply. I want to be honest—some scenes were incredibly hard to read. At times, I felt physically ill, but that only speaks to the raw truth and emotional depth the author conveys. These moments aren’t written for shock value; they’re meant to help readers truly understand Dani’s pain, resilience, and the strength it took to seek happiness.

This story is not an easy read, and it may not be for everyone. However, I wholeheartedly recommend it to readers over the age of eighteen. While it’s written from a woman’s perspective, it holds universal themes that both men and women can appreciate. It’s not overly feminine—it’s human. At times, I found myself frustrated with Dani’s decisions, but that only made her more real. We all make difficult choices for the people we love, and that truth is woven into every page.

I give this book five stars. It is beautifully written, deeply creative, and brimming with raw, emotional talent. I couldn’t put it down. This story stayed with me, and I walked away with a deeper understanding of life’s complexities.
